So I have some pretty big news that frequent readers of this here blog will know is, indeed, pretty big news given my love of a certain city on the East Coast.
I’m moving on up … to New York City.
Not only do the fella and I have brand-spanking-new jobs (he’s already started; I start a new associate editrix/social media specialist position in the Financial District next week), but we move into our very own, very fabulous apartment. With an exposed brick wall.
So that’s why I’ve been so MIA the past few days and whatnot, after we have been job-hunting the past few years, everything just happened so quickly, so it’s been a whirlwind of apartment hunting, packing, work, packing some more and then more packing after that. While it’s all very exciting, packing is the exact opposite of a good time, as you might already know.
So, in addition to this madcap lifestyle that will most likely ensue the next few days and/or weeks (gulp) as we settle in, I’ve done something that I always vowed I’d do should I ever live and/or work in my favorite city on Earth: Start a blog as a love letter of sorts to the city as I learn about our new neighborhood, experience life as a New Yorker and see everything I possibly can.
Given that I already drive like a true New Yorker and walk the streets like one and know my way around pretty much like one, what say you, New York, about maybe shaving a few years off the “You must live in the city for 10 years before you’re considered a New Yorker” rule??
I hope you’ll join me on this journey at Nikki & New York – I think we’ll have lots to see together!
Seen in the slideshow above are what is soon to be the brick wall in our first New York apartment, the lion detail on our building and a shot of the Empire State Building that I took Sunday, after we signed our lease. I’m probably going to take a lot of ESB pictures because she never fails to take my breath away.
