30-Day Poetry Challenge: Day 14

Write a poem in terza rima. (You can read more about terza rima here: http://bit.ly/mzBCYi )

A sweet, gentle life has thus been lost,
gone forever from his tender soul
to never feel again under his paws a woodsy frost.

On the well-worn teak rests his water bowl,
full, still in hopes he returns to this peaceful place,
the void from his absence shall bring forth a woeful toll;

Through seemingly infinite time and space
his presence greeted visitors just as humble as he,
warmed by the sight of his sweet, furry face.

Dedicated to one Xu – who I only met once during one wonderful, sunny day, but whose presence — and that of his peaceful companions — has left an indelible mark upon me. May you rest in peace, ready to greet and comfort those entering into their own great beyond.
