30-Day Poetry Challenge: Day 1

It’s here, it’s here, it’s here!

Day 1: When One Door Closes: Open a door to the outside world. Step outside and write about it.

The door buzzes as I reach it.
I let in an unknown neighbor, their friend or some potential assailant
(who’s to know for sure?)
It doesn’t matter, though,
(at least not for now)
because the blue sky is above me,
the concrete is below my feet,
and the sun shines on the brick buildings that surround me,
warming them,
making them alive
as I put one foot in front of the other
and go.

About nikkimmascali

I am an editor, writer and New Yorker who has ink for blood and the blog name + tattoo to prove it. Also of note: I follow more dogs than people on Instagram. This is my blog about reading, writing and absolutely no 'rithmetic because I am horrendous at math.
