30-Day Poetry Challenge: Day 27

Day 27: Active Imagination – Close your eyes and try to recall a time you were alone in nature. See the sights, hear the sounds, and breathe in the scents that were present in the setting. Write a poem prompted by your sense of smell.

For the record, I wrote this on the bus back to the city last night, but just did not have the energy to post when I got home.

Clean, so clean
smell the woods
around my childhood home,
the carpet of leaves
‘neath my feet,
the dark dirt churned by my footfalls,
smells like renewal.

I pause,
take a deep, deep breath,
feel the air cleansing my skin, my soul

and know it’ll aways be
the smell of home.
