30-Day Poetry Challenge: Day 28

Day 28: Knocking off the dust – Go into the back of your closet, or shed, or some other storage space and pick three objects at random — write a poem about them. It could be a fantastical story about how they were acquired, or about a person in your life you might associate one or all of them with, or an unearthed memory of something enjoyable or melancholy.

Wrinkled material long unworn
shoved in the way back
out of sight, but never out of mind
animal print worn to a friend’s wedding,
flowy teal I couldn’t stop myself from twirling in
and skinny jeans that aren’t for me.
I miss them
they mock me
but I’m gaining on them.
